Alright everyone, we have finally made it to football season! Lets discuss these week 1 games and what we should expect to see as I make my final score predictions for each game.
Utah vs SUU
First games of the season kick off today (Sept. 1st) starting with Utah vs SUU. Expectations are high this year for the Utes, as fans are excited to see the Junior QB Troy Williams make his first start. This game will be held at Rice Eccles Stadium at 6:00 PM MST and will be shown on the Pac-12 Network channel.
Utah is by far the superior team in this matchup, and I expect the Utes to be able to handle the T-Birds with ease. This will be a great confidence builder for QB Troy Williams, and the offense as they should be able to put up 40+ points in this game.
Final Score Prediction: Utah 42-7
Utah St. vs Weber St.
Another in state game, with the Aggies opening up their season against the Wildcats at home. This game will kick off today (Sept 1st.) at 6:00 PM MST on the Mountain West Network. Two things to be excited about for Aggie football are: starting RB Devontae May’s, and starting QB Kent Myers. Myers is a Junior who has good experience under his belt, and will look to have a a solid game against the Wildcats, and should have a nice game against an undersized defense.
Devontae Mays is the starting RB for the Aggies, and coming into his Senior year. The Aggies will look to lean on the ground game, and use Mays as their work horse against the Wildcats. Expect Mays to rush for +100 yards and a TD or 2 this game.
Final Score Prediction: Utah St. 28-10
BYU vs Arizona
This is an interesting match-up as the Cougars will look to open their season with a road win against the Wildcats of Arizona. The game will be held September 3rd at 8:30 PM on FS1. Reports have been showing that BYU has sold more tickets to this game than Arizona, which is crazy to think about. Sounds like it should almost be a home game for the Cougars!
But don’t under-estimate the Wildcats. Junior QB Anu Solomon had a great year last year, throwing for 2,600 yards, 20 TD’s, and only 5 INT’s. The Wildcats were the #20 overall offense in the country last year, as they averaged 37 PPG. BYU’s main focus will be to stop Anu and that high-powered offense.
This game will be a shootout, and should be a battle of the offenses. Arizona was ranked 114 out of 127 in total defense last year, so this will be a good game for Taysom to gain some confidence and put up some big numbers on the ground and in the air.
Final Score Prediction: BYU 35-28
